    The DNC didn’t change the rules to ensure good, diverse candidates could remain on the debate stage. They shouldn’t change the rules to let a billionaire on. Billionaires shouldn't be allowed to play by different rules—on the debate stage, in our democracy, or in our government.

    Tip: if you find using ORM to write your database queries put a hold on your DB development. It's not a good example of Modern Data Engineering. How about using modern features like CTEs and Generated/Virtual columns?

    Tip: if you find yourself hating PHP because you only use it for WordPress, put a hold on your WordPress development. It’s not a good example of Modern PHP. Try building a CLI app with the symfony/console package using composer

    Do 1 on 1s and don’t skip them, learn who your people are, give structured reviews every 6 to 12 months, remove bad apples sooner than later, lead by example when possible, set an achievable pace, invest in education, show your team trust and give autonomy.

    Agree. Quality over quantity. power through 4 hours of “deep work”, then work on creative projects & meet with people who inspire me (and In turn, my work)

    This! Years ago someone told me that if you do four hours of excellent work, you should stop for the day. It's turned out to be some of the best advice I've received. (And it's a rare day that I manage even four hours of excellent work.)

    I have heard of offers being revoked a few times for asking things like this, but exceptionally rare. And if it is revoked, that likely is a HUGE red flag. Personally, I would rather know that early...

    Here’s a tip from a hiring manager: I will never revoke your offer because you ask for: - A higher base salary - More stock - A signing bonus - Relo assistance I might not be able to offer any of that and then I’ll have to say no, but it’s probably safe to ask.

    Elizabeth Warren is a professor emerita at Harvard Law and one of the all-time most cited legal experts in bankruptcy and commercial law. The rate she charged over 30 years isn't even competitive with her male "peers" w/ far less expertise. FUCK. THIS. NOISE. PAY. WOMEN.

    NEWS: Elizabeth Warren was compensated nearly $2 million over about three decades for doing consulting & other legal work, per campaign. She previously disclosed the cases she worked on but compensation is new amid calls by Mayor Pete to release more tax returns. Story up soon

    When people talk about how public trains or whatever will be more "efficiently" run by the private sector, they just mean that the private sector will raise prices so poor people can't use it, and cut all the employee's pensions. For some reason economists call this efficiency.
