I’m the founder and Chief Product Officer at Yoast, and a WordPress / web developer, SEO and online marketer. You should use some of our WordPress plugins or follow one of our online courses.

Interests

I love open source, marketing (particularly technical SEO) and helping businesses excel online. In my spare time, I love hanging out with my wife & kids, drinking good drinks and eating good food. If I need “alone” time, it’s usually spent coding or gaming on my iPhone.

WordPress Origin Story

I started working with WordPress in 2006, while building css3.info and my personal site which was, back then, still joostdevalk.nl. As I was also working as an SEO consultant and wanted to improve the SEO of my sites, to scratch my own itch I started building SEO plugins. In doing this I found things in core needed fixing so I also started contributing to WordPress core in 2007. I later combined my several SEO plugins into “the” WordPress SEO plugin, later renamed to Yoast SEO.
