Thanks WooCommerce – Mt Cook Sponsor

We’d like to say a big thank you to WooCommerce, one of our Mt Cook (Gold) Sponsors.

We bet you all already know that WooCommerce is the powerhouse eCommerce solution built on WordPress. Whether you’re a small-time seller or a big online store, WooCommerce can get you up and running with online sales.

What you might not know is that WooCommerce are behind a massive 37% of ALL online stores worldwide. That’s a pretty solid achievement.

Thanks for giving back to the WordPress community and sponsoring our WordCamp AKL WooCommerce – you guys rock.

Thanks GoDaddy Pro – Mt Ruapehu (Silver) sponsor

GoDaddy Pro are one of our two Mt Ruapehu (Silver) sponsors this year.

We’re sure you’ve heard of GoDaddy – with more than 50 million domain names under their accounts, odds are you or someone you know is a customer! GoDaddy provide domain purchase and management services and are all about looking out for the little guy – enabling small businesses to affordably get online with their chosen domain name.

Thank you for sponsoring WordCamp AKL GoDaddy!

WordCamp Auckland in a nutshell!

We’ve been feverishly planning all the things to WCAKL and are just so happy with how things are turning out. Here’s a summary of the last minute jobs we’ve been working on this week:

  • Confirming all the things.
  • Locked in schedule.
  • Signed for about 50KG of swag deliveries!
  • Rallying our volunteer crew! Y’all are amazing!
  • Running last minute Advertising on FB/ Linked in
  • Printing lanyards : seriously, props to Dan Matthews our unofficial, but totally amazing designer!
  • Wrangling copy, content and all the things we aren’t so savvy with!

It really takes a team to run a WordPress, huge props to our organiser team Ralf Klis, Tarei King, Dan Matthews and special guests Dee Teal and Jason Kemp for the huge commitment put in!

Huge props to all our volunteers and the people who volunteered to help out! The WordPress community in Auckland, although small – is full of people willing to lend a hand!

After Party – Saturday night’s social event!

La Zeppa

As is tradition in many WordCamp’s, the after party is a social event held in the middle of the conference, typically on the evening of day one. It’s a chance to interact socially with attendees, speakers and sponsors – in a relaxed environment.

This year we are being hosted by La Zeppa in Victoria Park Market (click for details) – a short walk from the venue! We have reserved a roof top area which is a little quieter, allowing everyone to talk and catch up.

Discuss the highlights from day one and generally relax a little bit.

Light refreshments and nibbles are provided. You’ll need your WCAKL lanyard to gain entry and freebies!

We are still looking for a sponsor for the after-party (don’t worry, it’s still going ahead)… so if you or your company would like to sponsor register your interest on our call for sponsors page.

Call for panel topics and questions

WordCamp Auckland is happening this weekend (need tickets?) and on Saturday 11 march we’ve got a Panel Discussion. However, we need your help in coming up with a core discussion topic.

Additionally, we will be asking the panel your questions – so get them in early to ensure we have everything lined up perfectly.

Our panel isn’t selected yet, but we will be asking from a selection of our speakers whether they would like to be apart of our panel and share their opinions. So if your question is better suited for a particular speaker – let us know who that is.

TL:DR; Get in touch, ask a question – all from the safety of twitter/facebook or in person.

  • How to ask a question? Twitter with the hashtag #AskWCAKL
  • Below with a comment
  • Leave a comment on our facebook page.
  • Slack us in #general on http://wpnz-slack.herokuapp.com / #WPNZ

Questions from all over New Zealand and the world are welcome!

The first WordCamp to have a hangi for lunch?

We can’t confirm whether we are the first WordCamp to cater a traditional maori hangi for lunch, but we definitely are the first in 2017!

Attendees of WCAKL17 will be treated to an traditional hangi prepared offsite and served buffet-style on saturday for lunch. We’ve called in a few favours and Riki Bennett, the Hangi Master – will be serving up this awesome feast!

For more information on how a hangi is prepared or what it is, visit: http://www.newzealand.com/int/feature/maori-hangi/

Vegetables prior to being cooked underground!

Be sure to include any dietary requirements when purchasing your ticket – we will do our best to accommodate everyone.

Call for volunteers!

With WCAKL17 fast approaching, we’ve need a helping hand.

If you want to contribute to the WordPress community, meet awesome people and get a backstage peek into how everything works at a WordCamp, this is for you!

We need volunteers to make WordCamp awesome and this could be you! We will throw in a free t-shirt, a free ticket for the event (so you can attend when you’re not busy) and meals as well!

Wanna apply? Read more and fill out the application form here: Volunteer at WCAKL17

Need to know why volunteering rocks?

The volunteers of WordCamp Europe share their thoughts on an excellent blog post here https://2017.europe.wordcamp.org/2017/01/19/what-have-past-wceu-volunteers-learned-from-their-experience/.

Don’t miss out on a T-shirt! Get your ticket before March 1st.

tl;dr: Buy a ticket before 1 March to get your t-shirt guaranteed. Trust us, these t-shirts are slick!

Dan Matthews from Design Cabin has been creating amazing designs for WCAKL. We’ve seen so many great designs from website, identity and wapuu, but the latest designs are exciting – T-shirts! If you see him at WCAKL – give him some massive props, he’s also a freelance designer if your project needs one!

We haven’t yet confirmed whether t-shirts are 100% budgeted for – we need more ticket sales and more sponsors, but if we can wrangle another $5,000 in combined sponsorship and ticket sales, we will have these amazing t-shirts available to all attendees, speakers, sponsors and volunteers (who have their information to use before the 1st of march).

But, if we don’t have your ticket + a t-shirt size confirmed, we won’t be able to promise you’ll have a t-shirt on the day, so get in quick!

Now, we can’t confirm whether this is the t-shirt design or not for this year’s #WCAKL event.. so you’ll just have to GET YOUR TICKET and find out on the day.

Why the 1st of march? Well – printers have to print. So all the t-shirt sizes we have by march first, will be printed. No promises after that.

Does your company want to sponsor? We’d love you too – take a look at our sponsors page to find out how!
