WordPress 5.3 ready to be translated

WordPress 5.3, planned for November 12, 2019, is now ready to be translated on translate.wordpress.orgtranslate.wordpress.org The platform for contributing to the translation of WordPress core, themes and plugins.!

WP polyglots facilitator

I am Jesús Amieiro, one of the GTEGeneral Translation Editor A General Translation Editor (often referred to as GTE) is a person, who has global access to validate strings on all projects for a specific locale. of the Galician language. The Galician language is spoken by some 2.4 million people, mainly in Galicia, an autonomous community located in northwestern Spain, where it is official along with Spanish.

The Galician people are bilingual in both languages, so we can take advantage of this to translate WordPress and its environment (plugins, themes, …) from Spanish to Galician and not from English to Galician (the Spanish translation community is the most important worldwide and usually has translated the entire top 200 plugins and themes). In this way we avoid having to interpret each translation stringString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings., and we only have to translate from one language to another (both languages are very similar, both are Iberian Romance languages).

To automate this work I have developed a tool, WP polyglots facilitator, which allows you to generate a .po file with the stringsString A string is a translatable part of the software. I published this tool on September 22, 2019, in WordCamp Pontevedra, and in the Galician translation community (with 4 active translators, 109 translators) we have gone from having 28 plugins translated 100% in the top 200 to 95, only behind the Spanish community (207 plugins – 3202 translators) so I think it is a tool that facilitates a lot of work with a good quality of results.

I would love to hear what you think of the tool and suggest me improvements.
