Hi,
while I was trying to update wordpress to the latest version, after running the update-core available in dashboard, which yield after the updates HTTP error 500 due to fact lots of functions is missing.
some of the files I found empty :

  • wp-includes/functions.php - 0 bytes
  • wp-includes/about.php - 0 bytes
  • wp-includes/admin-ajax.php - 0 bytes
  • wp-login.php - 0 bytes

It sounds like there was an issue between your server and the WordPress update server. This can happen for many reasons (latency / timeouts either on your server or the WP server). I would recommend downloading WordPress directly from wordpress.org and performing a manual upgrade: https://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WordPress#Manual_Update

Hello @medlemark, as @elrae has already explained, this sounds like an incomplete upgrade. Manually re-uploading the WordPress files will fix this for you.
