Gutenberg

Descrición

“Gutenberg” is a codename for a whole new paradigm in WordPress site building and publishing, that aims to revolutionize the entire publishing experience as much as Gutenberg did the printed word. Right now, the project is in the first phase of a four-phase process that will touch every piece of WordPress — Editing, Customization, Collaboration, and Multilingual — and is focused on a new editing experience, the block editor.

The block editor introduces a modular approach to pages and posts: each piece of content in the editor, from a paragraph to an image gallery to a headline, is its own block. And just like physical blocks, WordPress blocks can added, arranged, and rearranged, allowing WordPress users to create media-rich pages in a visually intuitive way — and without work-arounds like shortcodes or custom HTML.

The block editor first became available in December 2018, and we’re still hard at work refining the experience, creating more and better blocks, and laying the groundwork for the next three phases of work. The Gutenberg plugin gives you the latest version of the block editor so you can join us in testing bleeding-edge features, start playing with blocks, and maybe get inspired to build your own.

"...you can feel how much faster your work flows." - I feel a panic attack coming on. "Speed! 14% faster loading of the editor..." - On what planet!? Venus? "...51% faster time-to-type!" - *sighs* Dear Lord, just take me now. "...the block editor supports TikTok" - Putting lipstick on a pig doesn't make it any less of a pig. The day was March 31st. The year, 2020. Aprox. 480 days since the Gutenberg menace was unleashed. More than 2,000 open issues. Devs got a TikTok block and I've lost complete faith in humanity.

Gutenberg's had a lot of impressive development since it was first released. If you've struggled with it before, it's worth your time to try it again.

I think the block editor is great. I have however not ever installed and activated this plugin, as it seem to only enhances the interface from what I understand and not add new tools and functions. Maybe I will use it later. Instead, the intersting thing is how the developer community create diverse and several Gutenberg block plugins which add tools and new functions to the existing ones. Without them I could never have accomplished the websites I have. /David

Guys really this is not a direction which WordPress should go. It's: 1. Unintuitive 2. Visual representation what u write and how its going to look like on website is terrible. 3. Main box is so narrow. 4. Searching and adding blocks is terrible. 5. Publisihng and changing url of created site cant be found. 6. Developing this feature having simplicity in mind went in so oposite direction. 7. There is no UX and terrible UI 8. Get some good UX Designers before starting a core project. 9. I'm really sorry to writing all of this things. I wish you goodluck 🙁

I've been using WordPress and the Avada theme for years. Avada now forces you to use Gutenburg. My customers that update their websites are leaving in droves.
