WordCamp Asia 2021 Call for Organisers

WordCamp Asia organising team is looking for additional team members to join our 2021 team.

WordCamp Asia organising team is looking for additional team members to join our 2021 team. The venue has generously agreed to move our event dates as following:

  • Date: January 22-24, 2021 (subject to change)
  • Venue: TRUE ICON HALL in Bangkok, Thailand
  • Event Format: 1 Contributor Day (first day) and 2 conference days

We’d like you to understand that there is a chance we may not be able to hold the conference as we are currently planning due to the COVID-19 situation. The 2021 organizing team will need to be comfortable with uncertainty and willing to be flexible with a backup plan. Whatever the future holds, we’d love to help grow the Asian WordPress with more enthusiastic open source citizens with creativity, resilience, and a team-focused mindset.

Organiser criteria

WordCamp Asia organising team will consist of about 15 local (Thai) members and 30-35 global members from all over Asia.

All members must meet these criteria:

  • Be able to travel to WordCamp Asia
  • Residency in Asia or active contribution in Asian community initiatives
  • Have diversity as a core belief

In addition, global members must:

  • Have experience with organising a WordCamp or a similar external event

Opening roles

We are looking for 1 or 2 members for each of the following teams with described expertise:

  • Attendee Experience (AX) Team: Any previous experience in improving the experience of event attendees and/or assisting everyone with special needs (e.g. food allergy)
  • Communications Team: Writing external communication in English, social media handling, public relations.
  • Main Venue Team: Excellent written/verbal communication and follow-up skills.
  • Speakers Team: Well-organized and good at communicating with parties outside of the team.
  • Volunteer Wrangling Team: Detail-oriented and can simulate different scenarios. At least 1 local member is needed in this role.
  • Contributor Day Team: Experience in contributing to the WordPress open source project and knowledge of the different contribution teams.

Because we are making use of our work done for the 2020 event, some teams will have a lighter workload than others depending on the number of finished tasks that can be repurposed. At the same time, please know that the flagship WordCamp organisation has some factors that require more effort and workarounds compared to a local WordCamp (which can be a good thing!).

Timeline

This call will be open until June 8, 2020, at 23:59 Bangkok Time (UTC+7). Please note the current team is taking a break while the call is open. We plan on notifying the result by early June.

The new team will get together (on Slack) in mid-June and start discussing our plans.

Apply to join us!

We look forward to hearing from you. Let’s build the future of WordPress in Asia together!
