Niels works as a Happiness Engineer for Automattic where he provides support for WordPress.com customers. Outside work he organises WordCamps and WordPress Meetups both in Europe and Asia.

After his study in computer science in Germany, he moved to the Netherlands, where he worked for several companies as a web developer and a business analyst. Since mid-2014 he’s been travelling through South-East Asia where he fights bugs between palm trees and rice fields.

WordPress Origin Story

First contact with WordPress 2.0 in 2005. After years of abstinence rediscovered WordPress 4.0 in 2014. Since then 100% committed to serving clients with custom-built websites as well as to contribute to the global WordPress community. Translation contributor since the first quarter of 2015 and plugin contributor since the second quarter of 2015. Also since 2015, he’s a WordCamp Organiser, WordCamp Speaker and WordPress.tv Contributor. In 2017 he got hired by Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com, and in 2018 he became a Core Contributor.
