WordPress 15th Anniversary date range extension

The 15th Anniversary of WordPress is fast approaching and communities around the world are organising parties to celebrate. These events are being tracked on the central WP15 website where they show up automatically if the event is labelled as a 15th Anniversary party and fits into the required date range. At first that date range was within a week on either side of the anniversary date (27 May), but we have now extended that date all the way back to 1 May for two reasons:

Ramadan

Ramadan, a full month of fasting in the Islamic calendar, starts on 15 May this year. We have heard from a few people that they haven’t wanted to organise a 15th Anniversary party because they wouldn’t be able to do it during Ramadan. Extending the date range for WP15 parties to show up on the site effectively removes that restriction and makes space for more communities to be included in the global celebrations.

A meetup is typically a chance for local WordPress users to get together and share new ideas and seek help from one another. Searching for ‘WordPress’ on meetup.com will help you find options in your area. days

Many communities are using the regular monthly meetup day as their WP15 celebration. This is a great way to do things of course, but in many cases those dates were outside of our specified date range. With the dates now encompassing the whole month of May, all regular meetup days are included and this will no longer be a problem.

With these updates, we hope to see more communities included in these celebrations!
