Requirements

To run BuddyPress, we recommend your host supports:

PHP version 7.2 or greater.
MySQL version 5.6 or greater, or, MariaDB version 10.0 or greater.
HTTPS support.

Automatic installation

Automatic installation is the easiest option as WordPress handles everything itself. To do an automatic install of BuddyPress, log in to your WordPress dashboard, navigate to the Plugins menu and click Add New.

In the search field type “BuddyPress” and click Search Plugins. Once you’ve found it, you can view details about the latest release, such as community reviews, ratings, and description. Install BuddyPress by simply pressing “Install Now”.

Visit ‘Settings > BuddyPress > Components’ and adjust the active components to match your community. (You can always toggle these later.)
Visit ‘Settings > BuddyPress > Pages’ and setup your directories and special pages. We create a few automatically, but suggest you customize these to fit the flow and verbiage of your site.
Visit ‘Settings > BuddyPress > Settings’ and take a moment to match BuddyPress’s settings to your expectations. We pick the most common configuration by default, but every community is different.

The Plugin is good but when you have to manage multilingual site you need also email translations and the users to receive emails in own language. I used Buddypress Multilingual but emails are not sent in proper language. More, the way buddypress manage emails is very confused and the subject and body of the emails are slitted in the Email post type and strings in the code, that cause a big confusione and a lot of work. Af for my knowledge the problem start with the bad way Buddypress manage emails, and this plugin cìis not a solution to have emails translated. I tried have some answer in the support forum but no way. Other point is that emails are already translated in the langua package of buddypress, but with this plugin you can't use the translations but you have to translate each email by yourself.

I found no better plugin for my social community that BuddyPress. It is true that customization may not be easy for someone new in wordpress, but the huge community support gives you all the answers you neet. I huge recomend it!

If you are new to WordPress the setup of BuddyPress can take a bit of work especially if you want to add more features with other plugins or don’t know how to edit BuddyPress templates. That being said their site has a great support forum. BuddyPress was not as simple as the other plugins I’ve used in the past but their forum was a big help.
