Bio

Tampa, Florida resident by way of Northern Virginia and San Francisco, Dan first found WordPress when exploring content marketing back in 2009 and it was love at first “site”. Dan and his family of four spend their weekends biking around Tampa searching for the best donuts and pizza, visiting one of the many amusement parks in the area, collecting all sorts of things, building Legos, beach-going, walking, and laughing until they cry.

Dan’s wife (originally from Saratoga, CA) owns a pilates studio in Tampa, so he has no excuse not to stay in shape!

Dan spent 10 years working in enterprise software in a variety of roles (product management, product marketing, marketing), and then 10 years working in a pure marketing role for various online learning companies.

Dan graduated from the University of Virginia and attended Thomas Jefferson HS for Sci/Tech in Annandale, Virginia.

Interests

family, outdoors stuff (biking, hiking, scooting, climbing, rafting, beaching, walking), movies, coins and memorabilia, travel, games, laughing.

WordPress Origin Story

In 2009, I was the head of performance marketing at a large university. Back in that day, schools really did not do a lot of online marketing – especially blogging and content creation. However, I was focused on growing online enrollments and believed we could create blogs/content for each school at the university. Looking over the shoulder of my web developer one afternoon, I saw that he was fiddling with one of the new sites we were just about to launch, focused on homeland security news/opinion. I asked what he was using to create the website/blog and he said, “WordPress”. For me, it was love at first “site”. The rest, as they say, is history…
