Yoast Contributor day
We're opening up our Yoast Contributor day to everyone who wants to contribute to WordPress. It doesn't matter if you are an experienced contributor or if you are a first-timer. Everyone can join this day!
Apart from contributing to WordPress, this day allows you to make new connections and get to know many Yoasters! 🥳
So lose no time to sign up, because we have a limited amount of seats. 😉
⏰ When and where?
When?
October 8, from 10:00 AM till 3:30 PM (UTC+2). You're free to join for the whole day, or only for a couple of hours – that’s up to you!
Where?
Online. All of us will be working in Zoom breakout rooms (download the Zoom program here). Some Yoasters will be joining from our offices, making this event hybrid for the first time!
📆 The program of the day (UTC+2)
Time | Activity |
10:00 AM - 10:30 AM | Introduction by Taco Verdonschot |
10:30 AM - 3:00 PM | Help desk by Carolina Nymark |
10:30 AM - 3:00 PM | Contributing |
3:00 PM - 3:30 PM | Recap by table leads |
❓ What tables can I choose from?
The working groups that you can choose from are:
Table | Table lead | What will you do? |
#Accessibility | JB Audras | Not known yet |
#Design | Tammie Lister | Tammie is preparing a list of tasks. Tammie will also run a “hallway hangout” to showcase an audit of theme blocks and their features, using them and testing their design. |
#Core | - | Self-organized, both front and back-end. |
#Documentation | Milana Cap | Review HelpHub* articles for parts that are too technical for the end-user (anything that needs editing files, e.g. .htaccess ect) and report those parts in the existing GitHub issue. Re-categorisation of HelpHub articles - this work has started a while ago by Estela Rueda and we are planning to continue it. HelpHub is https://wordpress.org/support/ |
#Polyglots | Taco Verdonschot | We’ll focus on translating WordPress, and when that’s done for your language we’ll focus on (popular) plugins. Or, one can focus on improving the consistency and overall quality of the translations. |
#WordPress TV | David Pérez | David will explain how to upload WordCamp videos and make subtitles. |
#Marketing | Yvette Sonneveld | Support the Learn. WordPress.org team with keyword research for future training material and create social media microcopy that can be used to promote the training sessions. |
#Themes | Ganga Kafle | Depending on what the contributors are interested in, they will work on WordPress core bundled themes and theme component tickets. https://core.trac.wordpress.org/component/Bundled%20Theme https://core.trac.wordpress.org/component/Themes |
#User Testing | - | Self-organized, we have calls for testing instructions for Full Site Editing - https://make.wordpress.org/test/2021/09/29/fse-program-testing-call-10-pattern-party/ |
🤔 Hmm, but I still don’t know how I can contribute…
Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! The main break-out room will be used as a help desk. You may join this desk at any time and Carolina Nymark is there to help you figure out how you can contribute, tell you more about what the Contributor day is and answer other questions.
🙌 Okay, I’m in! What should I do now?
Fill in this form below 👇 Also, read below what we will do with your personal data*
Note: registration has ended! We hope to see you on our next Contributor day! 🥳
✍️ Questions?
Please send them to community@yoast.com.
We can't wait to see you on October 8! 🥳
* When you register, we will ask for your name, email address, level of experience and interest in what table to attend. We need this information to be able to organize the contributor day and to have you and everyone else join the table you find interesting as much as possible. After registration, we will send you a confirmation email with more information about the day itself. During the day, we will manually keep up who joined and who did not. After the event, we will send everyone who registered a feedback form. We would love for you to fill in the form so we know what you liked and what we should do differently next time.
Your personal data will then be removed unless you put yourself on a mailing list to receive information about when the next Yoast contributor day is planned. You have the opportunity to do so when you fill in the feedback form. If you do so, we will save your name and email address for next time!
